Going Green at Cogniter Technologies

Tuesday, July 30, 2013
In the past, adoption of new technologies often meant higher energy consumption, driving electricity bills through the roof and putting a burden on the environment. For these reasons, more and more businesses are turning to Green IT initiatives.

Green IT includes the dimensions of the environment sustainability; the economics of energy efficiency and the total cost of ownership, which includes the cost of disposal and recycling of IT hardware. It also includes the study and practice of using the IT resources efficiently. The focus is on implementing recyclable products, reduction pollution, adopting alternative technologies in various fields and creating a center of economic activity around technologies that are beneficial for the environment.

We at Cogniter are committed to doing our bit for the environment. With this green vision, the company has been focusing on power efficiency throughout the design and development process of its solutions. Its environmentally friendly IT solutions are developed using a range of clean-computing strategies. The company is striving to educate its clients on lowering overall carbon footprint, the benefits of green computing for the sake of the environment as well as productivity and overall user experience.

To comprehensively and effectively address the environmental impact of computing and IT, Cogniter has adopted a holistic approach and made the entire IT lifecycle greener by addressing environmental sustainability along the following complementary paths:

• Green use – for reducing the energy consumption of computers and other information systems as well as using them in an environmentally sound manner. All CRT screens in the Lab have been replaced with state of the art energy efficient LED screens. Most of our servers have also been virtualized; rollout of green thin client solution is currently underway.

• Green disposal – We have been refurbishing and reusing old computers and properly recycling unwanted computers and other electronic equipment.
