TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 2014

When the world wide web was still in its infancy during the 1990s, websites were straightforward. They were little more than a bunch of HTML tags thrown in together. It changed during the 2000s. The emergence and popularity of social media, wikis, and other interactive websites turned users from passive spectators into active creators.
Today, we are almost in the midst of 2010s. The world of website design is undergoing another paradigm shift. We are seeing the emergence of new design patterns; such as one page design, flat design, monochromatic design, parallax effect, and sticky navigations. One page designs, in particular, have been showing a rapid rise in popularity. They have become favorite of many web designers as more clients are demanding this pattern for the websites.
This popularity of one page design has proven to be a boon for many web development and design companies in India. This blog looks at one page design from the perspective of consumer. It lists the pros and cons of choosing a one page design:
Pros
  • Super cool. One page designs are extremely cool. Even those, who criticise the design concur that there is no match to the coolness one page designs bring on table.
  • Last impression. Despite the rising popularity, one page designs are still novel. When your website possesses this design, it leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
  • Superb layout. Instead of dividing their energies in design of a few separate pages, designers can put their ideas into a one fabulous layout.
  • Search engine optimisation (SEO). Search engines absolutely love this design, because it improves content density.
  • User experience. One page designs are more user friendly. Web developers can make them static, or dynamic. It translates into zero-refresh and better visitor experience.

Cons
  • Longer load times. One page designs may take longer to load, because they often contain a large amount of text and several big images.
